A few habits keep your piece looking the way it did on day one.

Every day

• Put it on after perfume, deodorant and creams, not before.
• Take it off before swimming, the gym, bathing or sleeping.
• Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove sweat and oils.

Avoid

• Water, sweat left to dry on the piece, perfume, sanitiser, cleaning products and chlorinated or salt water.
• Rough surfaces and knocks that can scratch or dent the finish.

Storage

Store each piece on its own in its pouch so pieces don't rub against each other. Keep it somewhere dry, away from humidity, especially in the monsoon. Hang chains or lay them flat. Flat herringbone and snake chains can kink if folded, knotted or pulled sharply, so don't bend them.

Cleaning

Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. If needed, use a cloth barely dampened with lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap, then dry completely straight away. Never use abrasive polish, toothpaste or jewellery dips.

Hinged kadas

Open and close the hinge gently and fully, and don't force it past its natural opening.
